Breast Augmentation Information
Also known as breast enlargement surgery, and colloquially a boob job , this procedure is the most common cosmetic surgery in the UK.
As such, there is no shortage of surgeons who perform this surgery and the methods are well known.
However, while it is a surgery that many can perform, there are differences to consider.
The implants used, the experience of the surgeon, the past results achieved.
Breast augmentation uses implants to create the shape and size of breast desired by the patient – this will be discussed in consultation with the surgeon, factoring in a patient’s weight, height, body shape and existing breast tissue.
The operation itself typically takes around an hour and is performed under general anaesthetic.
Ms Prousskaia would make an incision either in the crease below the breast, under the arm or around the nipple.
From there, the breast implant is inserted between the breast tissue and chest muscle or behind the chest wall muscle.
Breast augmentation can also see fat grafted to either create the augmentation, or help to shape the breasts.
This would be applicable when a patient also wants to lose fat from a body area, for instance the abdomen or thighs.
Fat can be grafted and treated and then used to help shape the breasts.
This can be a wonderful option for some patients as it helps to address two issues at once; it is relatively common after childbirth with new mothers looking to regain their former figure.
From this derives the colloquial name ‘mummy makeover’.
The approach taken would depend upon the physiology and medical history of the patient.
Your safety and well-being is of paramount importance. Ms Prousskaia only recommends surgery when it is truly in a patient’s best interests.
She also only uses the highest quality of implants, and has never used PIP implants.
Advice On Breast Implants
Since December 2018, many regulatory bodies around the world have issued statements regarding their own position and some have limited the distribution of other textured devices.
The advice does vary from country to country because the research data available is limited and not conclusive.
None have called for the precautionary removal or replacement of textured devices that are already inside patients’ breasts.
Breast implants however are not lifelong enhancements and in general will need removal or replacement at some point.
In an effort to have more robust data about both conditions, the Breast and Cosmetic Implant register (BCIR) collects breast implant data for patients in England and Scotland.
The MHRA continues to collect and analyse UK information through a reporting system. It also has links with up to date information from international public health organisations. The most recent advice from MHRA on BIA-ALCL was updated on the 4th April 2019.

Breast Augmentation Key Details
Surgical time: The breast enlargement operation typically takes between two and 3.5 hours. It is performed under general anaesthetic
Hospital stay: An overnight stay in hospital is required
Recovery period: Full details would be provided, but recovery typically takes up to eight weeks. Some time off work is required, and physical activities would be phased back in gradually.
Cost: Surgery typically costs from £5,800 at the time of writing. A full quote would be provided if appropriate during consultation.
Final results: Final results would be visible potentially as quickly as three months after surgery, although it can be up to a year.
Follow up appointments: Ms Prousskaia would hold follow-up appointments at one week, four and 12 weeks and then a year. She would also answer any questions outside of these scheduled checks to ensure your progress is as expected.

The surgery can produce the physical change that is sought, creating breasts of the size and shape the patient wants, but also in proportion with the body. The results are natural-looking.
