What is breast enlargement surgery?

Breast enlargement is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the UK and is relatively straightforward when undertaken by a skilled surgeon. The procedure involves the insertion of an implant under the breast tissue or the chest muscle to increase the size of the breast. Many women choose to increase the size of their breasts as they find that it improves their self-confidence and body image

Breast enlargement procedures are something Elena does a lot of, and for which she has huge experience. Also known as breast implants or breast augmentation, this procedure is something many women turn to to improve a long-standing sense of dissatisfaction with their body shape, and restore confidence.

Why do People Choose Breast Augmentation?

There are many reasons people choose breast surgery, but common ones include:

  • Size – this is perhaps the most common reason but of course ascertaining the right size for your body shape and weight is a fine art. Elena can help you make the right decision to get the breasts you’ve been dreaming of.
  • Enhancing the contours of their body – Many women long for an hourglass shape and seek larger breasts to enhance their overall body contour.
  • Breast Cancer – Some women opt for breast augmentation as part of a reconstructive procedure following cancer
  • Weight Loss – Significant weight loss can seriously impact the shape, fullness and skin of the breasts, so for many women who have fought hard to achieve a particular weight, the breast augmentation is the final step. Where there has been significant deflation, a simple breast enhancement procedure can make the world of difference.
  • Post-Pregnancy – The ‘Mommy-Makeover- is now a common set of procedures which help post-partum women restore their natural shape.
  • Asymmetry – Asymmetrical breasts is usually something women discover in puberty and can cause a marked lack of self-confidence. Restoring the natural balance of the breasts is easily corrected with surgery.

Choosing the Right Breast Implants

Elena only uses the very finest breast implants on the market and puts the quality of the materials and the patients health as the primary factor. Elena will help you understand the range of choices available during your initial consultation, and the benefits of each one.

Breast Enlargement Aftercare

The team at Elena Prousskaia take after-care very seriously. While most people should be able to return home on the same day as your breast augmentation surgery, some may need to stay overnight for recuperation purposes. Patients should avoid driving for a few days after the administration of a general anaesthetic.

After breast augmentation surgery, both bruising and minor scarring are common on the underside of the breasts. The majority view should fade after about six weeks although obviously this will differ on a case-by-case basis. We would expect complete healing to take up to 18 months, but this is something Elena discuss with you in your post-operative consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The Recovery Time for Breast Augmentation?

Normally, after a one-night stay, you would go home once the drains are removed. You may feel tightness of your breasts after this surgery. This is normal and it will improve gradually. You should avoid all sport activities, housework such as hovering, driving, dog walking for at least 4-6 weeks following surgery and any weight lifting or strenuous activities for up to 8-12 months following the surgery. The visibility of your scars will depend on the technique used and on the biological response of your body to surgery and healing. Generally the scars after this type of surgery are almost invisible by the end of the year. Patients can benefit from taking four weeks off work, and after you have seen Ms Prousskaia for your four weeks follow up you can discuss beginning a gym routine focused on lower body strength.

What Is The Aftercare for Breast Augmentation?

The Elena Prousskaia Clinic prides itself on the quality of its aftercare so we’ll make absolutely sure you know what to expect, and how much rest is needed. We’ll give you specific instructions that may include how to care for your breasts following surgery, medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the risk of infection, and when to follow-up with Elena.

How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost?

Please visit our fees page for more information.

Are There Risks With The Procedure?

While complications with surgery are infrequent, no surgical procedure is without risks. Among the possible complications are scars, infection, haematoma, implant displacement, breast asymmetry and implant rupture. Elena will provide you with further information with the risks and provide you with a detailed consent form during your consultations. This will help you to minimise the risks.

How Long Does A Breast Augmentation Surgery Take?

Generally speaking this surgery takes around 60-90 minutes, although this varies depending on the nature of the procedure.

Is It Painful To get Breast Implants?

After surgery it is normal to experience some discomfort, the level of which varies widely amongst patients. There is rarely prolonged pain unless there is a complication and in all cases you will be prescribed pain medication.

What Type Of Implants Are Used?

The shape of implants can be round or anatomical (teardrop). Both can provide an excellent result. The outer shell and the filling may vary depending on the manufacturer. Miss Prousskaia has never used PIP implants in her practice and she will offer you high quality implants from the best manufacturers. You will discuss with Miss Prousskaia which specific shape and size of implant would give you the optimal result. You should know that in the European Union (EU) 95% of implants used for breast augmentation are made of silicone gel and only 5% contains other type of fillings such as saline. Mentor Silicone Gel-Filled Breast Implants are devices with shells constructed from silicone elastomer. The shell is filled with MemoryGel®, Mentor’s proprietary formulation of silicone gel.

Elena trained for eight years in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and since then has held leading Fellowships around the world and specialised in breast surgery procedures, whether a patient is having the procedure for purely aesthetic reasons or as part of breast reconstruction. As an NHS Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Southmead Hospital, she dedicated several years to complex microsurgical reconstruction and general plastic surgery. During this time at North Bristol Trust, she particularly enjoyed rebuilding patients who suffered from breast cancer giving them their body and confidence back. At present, Ms Prousskaia runs her own successful private practice performing full range of plastic and aesthetic surgery for face, body and breast. Elena Prousskaia consults in several clinics around the South West. Please see the ‘Our Locations’ tab in the menu for exact addresses or call us to discuss your closest location.

What Would My Expected Results Be?

Elena prides herself on taking the time to truly understand a patient’s aims and discussing what result will work best given the patient’s body shape and size. Although good results are expected, the body is not symmetric and almost everyone has some degree of unevenness, which may not be recognized in advance. The more realistic your expectations as to results, the better your results will be in your eye. You will have at least two consultations with Elena where she ensures that she meets your expectations and she will always try to achieve your desired results.

Can I Smoke Or Vape Before My Surgery?

Elena does not operate on patients that regularly smoke or vape. To be considered for this procedure you must refrain from smoking or vaping for 3 months before and after your surgery.
