Breast Implants are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available in Bath, with surgery possible at leading local private hospitals.
Also known as a mammaplasy the process of breast enlargement and the formation of firmer, more youthful breasts is a relatively straightforward procedure.
However, that is not to say all implants are equal and that all surgeons have the same level of experience and manner with prospective patients. A breast implant can address issues of lack of volume, under developed breasts or even out breasts that are not symmetrical.
The breast implants can be for purely cosmetic reasons or as part of a breast reconstruction, the results boost physical appearance but can also help tackle issues of lack of self esteem and negative self image.
.
In Bath, breast implants and cosmetic surgery are available at the Bath BMI Hospital, a superb private hospital with easy transport links. It has 67 rooms, each well equipped, and is a relaxing base for any overnight stays that are required.
The exact nature of the surgery, length of the procedure and aftercare will vary on a patient-by-patient basis, this because the nature of the surgery will be different.
Key to the very best results is the skill of the surgeon, their specific expertise in breast surgery and also how surgeon and patient discuss options during consultation.
In these areas, Elena Prousskaia is the stand out surgeon in Bath and the south.
One of the few female cosmetic surgeons in the UK and a leading surgeon of either sex, Elena specialises in breast surgery – she has held the prestigious Fellowship in Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction at London’s Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital.
In her 20-year career, Elena has also held Fellowships in Italy, Spain, Belgium, India and the stunning University Hospital in Tokyo.
She has won awards and been published in leading medical journals.
Such accomplishments are not mentioned to boast, but instead to demonstrate her credentials as a leading cosmetic surgeon.
Just as importantly, Elena strives to always deliver the best results for any patient. This process begins with an extremely thorough initial consultation. This is the opportunity for the prospective patient to talk through their aims for surgery and Elena to analyse the best options.
As Elena says:
The one thing that matters most to me when I am with a patient is empathy.
It is only when you are able to identify and understand your patients problems that you can begin to help resolve them satisfactorily. A good surgical outcome is not the only thing that matters. Everything that you do and say to a patient has to come from your heart.
It is of course easy to speak of a superb ethos, but Elena’s is demonstrated through the independent reviews given to her by pat patients.
You can read independent reviews via the inks below – please take the time to read reviews for any surgeon you consider, this helps to provide a sense of which surgeon might be the one you feel most comfortable approaching.
Breast implants can often be part of a fairly quick procedure, with typical times:
SURGICAL TIME: 2 – 3.5 hours
HOSPITAL STAY: Over night hospital stay
INITIAL RECOVERY TIME: 4 – 8 weeks
ANAESTHETIC: General anaesthetic
FINAL RESULT: 3 – 12 months
FOLLOW UP: 1, 4, 12 weeks & 1 year
However, these will vary by patient and in some cases surgery will be more complex and the recovery time greater. Elena would outline these details during consultation.
A second consultation is then common, this providing you with the opportunity to think of follow-up questions and consider if surgery truly is desired.
It should also be noted that Elena only ever uses the highest quality implants and has never used PIP implants.
We have included key links below to provide you with further information about both breast implant procedures and Elena as a leading surgeon.

Normally, after a one-night stay, you would go home once the drains are removed. You may feel tightness of your breasts after this surgery. This is normal and it will improve gradually. You should avoid all sport activities, housework such as hovering, driving, dog walking for at least 4-6 weeks following surgery and any weight lifting or strenuous activities for up to 8-12 months following the surgery. The visibility of your scars will depend on the technique used and on the biological response of your body to surgery and healing. Generally the scars after this type of surgery are almost invisible by the end of the year. Patients can benefit from taking four weeks off work, and after you have seen Ms Prousskaia for your four weeks follow up you can discuss beginning a gym routine focused on lower body strength.
The Elena Prousskaia Clinic prides itself on the quality of its aftercare so we’ll make absolutely sure you know what to expect, and how much rest is needed. We’ll give you specific instructions that may include how to care for your breasts following surgery, medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the risk of infection, and when to follow-up with Elena.

While complications with surgery are infrequent, no surgical procedure is without risks. Among the possible complications are scars, infection, haematoma, implant displacement, breast asymmetry and implant rupture. Elena will provide you with further information with the risks and provide you with a detailed consent form during your consultations. This will help you to minimise the risks.
Generally speaking this surgery takes around 60-90 minutes, although this varies depending on the nature of the procedure.
After surgery it is normal to experience some discomfort, the level of which varies widely amongst patients. There is rarely prolonged pain unless there is a complication and in all cases you will be prescribed pain medication.
The shape of implants can be round or anatomical (teardrop). Both can provide an excellent result. The outer shell and the filling may vary depending on the manufacturer. Miss Prousskaia has never used PIP implants in her practice and she will offer you high quality implants from the best manufacturers. You will discuss with Miss Prousskaia which specific shape and size of implant would give you the optimal result. You should know that in the European Union (EU) 95% of implants used for breast augmentation are made of silicone gel and only 5% contains other type of fillings such as saline. Mentor Silicone Gel-Filled Breast Implants are devices with shells constructed from silicone elastomer. The shell is filled with MemoryGel®, Mentor’s proprietary formulation of silicone gel.
Ms Elena Prousskaia has been carrying out aesthetic and plastic surgery procedures for more than 20 years. Elena trained for eight years in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and since then has held leading Fellowships around the world and specialised in breast surgery procedures, whether a patient is having the procedure for purely aesthetic reasons or as part of breast reconstruction. As an NHS Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Southmead Hospital, she dedicated several years to complex microsurgical reconstruction and general plastic surgery. During this time at North Bristol Trust, she particularly enjoyed rebuilding patients who suffered from breast cancer giving them their body and confidence back. At present, Ms Prousskaia runs her own successful private practice performing full range of plastic and aesthetic surgery for face, body and breast. Elena Prousskaia consults in several clinics around the South West. Please see the ‘Our Locations’ tab in the menu for exact addresses or call us to discuss your closest location.
Elena prides herself on taking the time to truly understand a patient’s aims and discussing what result will work best given the patient’s body shape and size. Although good results are expected, the body is not symmetric and almost everyone has some degree of unevenness, which may not be recognized in advance. The more realistic your expectations as to results, the better your results will be in your eye. You will have at least two consultations with Elena where she ensures that she meets your expectations and she will always try to achieve your desired results.
The total cost of the surgery will be confirmed after the first consultation.
The cost includes the hospital, surgeon and anaesthetic fees. It also covers all post-operative visits. The initial consultation fee will be invoiced separately. The prices apply only at the time of publication and are subject to changes without notification.
