Breast reconstruction surgery – available in Croydon through world renowned cosmetic surgeon Elena Prousskaia – can restore the natural figure and silhouette, leading to benefits that are both physical and psychological.
Choosing to have breast reconstruction surgery is never easy for any prospective patient, often the procedure would be to restore the figure after a breast has been removed or partially removed.
Often, this will be after a mastectomy or lumpectomy.
Below, we outline why Elena Prousskaia, who has held Fellowships in Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction, stands apart.
Typically undertaken at Croydon’s superb BMI Hospital, breast reconstruction can be undertaken in a number of ways and the precise approach will vary depending on each individual set of circumstances.
The option considered the ‘gold standard’ is known as Autologous Breast Reconstruction or DIEP (tissue from tummy) or TUG (tissue from thighs). These options take tissue from elsewhere on a patient’s body to reconstruct the breast, this creating a softer, more natural look. This procedure can also perform two physical enhancements in one, for instance taking tissue from tummy potentially performing a tummy tuck at the same time as the breast reconstruction.
Another option is to have expander or implant, these both offering shorter stays in hospital and reduced recovery times.
Elena offers both options and at consultation there would be discussion as to which might be the best option.
Consultations are always key to creating optimal results and Elena’s consultations are always detailed.
She has a patient-first ethos and wants to fully engage to understand the motivations for surgery, what the patient hopes to achieve and the results they are targeting. Elena can then use her vast experience to suggest a plan of best action.
A second consultation is then usual, this allowing the prospective patient time to think of further questions and also to consider if surgery truly is for them.
Elena would outline the costs and also recuperation details at consultation – the recovery time varies depending on the type of procedure undertaken but can take up to eight weeks.
There would, of course, be follow-up appointments to ensure progress and recovery was as expected.
There are, as mentioned, many fine cosmetic surgeons in and around Croydon who could perform breast reconstruction surgery.
However, Elena’s CV sets her apart.
She is not only a leading female surgeon, she is a leading surgeon of either sex.
She also specialises in breast reconstruction, in her 20 year career she has held Fellowships relating to breast surgery, the including the hugely prestigious fellowship in Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction at Guys and St Thomas’ in London.
Further Fellowships have been held in Italy, Spain, India, Belgium and the incredible University Hospital in Tokyo.
Just as importantly, Elena has shown herself to have a patient-focused ethos. It is easy to speak of ethos and manner, but the independent verified reviews haver to back this up.
Elena’s reviews across Google and the iwantdreatcare (iwantgreatcare) website are universally five stars, please take the time to read what previous patients have said, including those who had breast reconstruction surgery in Croydon and elsewhere.
The first step towards the best surgical results is to book a consultation. To do so, please call on 0800 8021 886 or book a consultation online.
As one of the few female plastic surgeons in the UK, Elena brings a distinctly feminine empathy and skill to the process of helping rebuild a woman’s body after the stress of masectomy.
Trained by UK and international most renowned fellowships in Breast Reconstruction and Breast Oncology, Elena also brings a wealth of experience, a sense of artistry, and a calm professionalism to all her work. The Elena Prousskaia Clinic also prides itself on the quality of its aftercare: we will make every effort to ensure you’re informed, prepared and well looked after throughout the whole procedure.
The length of your hospital stay depends on the type of operation and how your recovery progresses. For example, if you’ve had implants, the average length of hospital stay will be one night, however flap procedures require a stay of five to six days. After you have seen Ms Prousskaia for your four week follow, up you can then start to discuss your recovery plan going forward.
The Elena Prousskaia Clinic prides itself on the quality of its aftercare so we’ll make absolutely sure you know what to expect, and how much rest is needed. We’ll give you specific instructions that may include how to care for your breasts following surgery, medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the risk of infection, and when to follow-up with Elena. Elena will also advise you on a specialised garment bra, which will also help with your recovery.

While complications with surgery are infrequent, no surgical procedure is without risks. Among the possible complications are scars, infection, haematoma, implant displacement, breast asymmetry, implant rupture and capsular contracture. Elena will provide you with further information with the risks and provide you with a detailed consent form during your consultations. This will help you to minimise the risks.
Generally speaking breast reconstruction surgery timings may take from 2-8 hours, as this varies depending on the nature and complexity of the procedure.
After surgery it is normal to experience some discomfort, the level of which varies widely amongst patients. There is rarely prolonged pain unless there is a complication and in all cases you will be prescribed pain medication.
You will wear your support bra for up to three months after surgery – then you can look at purchasing your own ‘normal’ bras for everyday wear once fully healed.
The shape of implants can be round or anatomical (teardrop). Both can provide an excellent result. The outer shell and the filling may vary depending on the manufacturer. Miss Prousskaia has never used PIP implants in her practice and she will offer you high quality implants from the best manufacturers. You will discuss with Miss Prousskaia which specific shape and size of implant would give you the optimal result. You should know that in the European Union (EU) 95% of implants used for breast augmentation are made of silicone gel and only 5% contains other type of fillings such as saline. Mentor Silicone Gel-Filled Breast Implants are devices with shells constructed from silicone elastomer. The shell is filled with MemoryGel®, Mentor’s proprietary formulation of silicone gel.
Elena prides herself on taking the time to truly understand a patient’s aims and discussing what result will work best given the patient’s body shape and size. Although good results are expected, the body is not symmetric and almost everyone has some degree of unevenness, which may not be recognized in advance. The more realistic your expectations as to results, the better your results will be in your eye. You will have at least two consultations with Elena where she ensures that she meets your expectations and she will always try to achieve your desired results.
The total cost of the surgery will be confirmed after the first consultation.
The cost includes the hospital, surgeon and anaesthetic fees. It also covers all post-operative visits. The initial consultation fee will be invoiced separately. The prices apply only at the time of publication and are subject to changes without notification.
