Renowned cosmetic surgeon, Elena Prousskaia, offers safe and effective hair loss treatments at her hair transplantation clinic in Bristol.
Hair loss commonly affects men and hair thinning can begin as early as the teenage years. In fact, research suggests that 16% of men between 18 and 29 will suffer from moderate to extensive hair loss due to male pattern baldness.
The development of advanced surgical techniques has made hair transplants so effective and safe that many patients can be spared the self-consciousness caused by hair loss and enjoy a healthy head of hair again.

Elena Prousskaia has an excellent reputation as an aesthetic, plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
She has a number of clinics in the UK, offering a full range of plastic surgery treatments.
Her Bristol hair transplant clinic is located in the Spire Hospital which offers outstanding care to patients in the South West.
All the members of her surgical team demand high standards of care for all our patients and are experienced in advanced surgical techniques.
Elena is proud to partner with one of the most highly qualified and talented hair transplant surgeons, Dr Umar Khan, at her Bristol Clinic.
Dr Khan is registered with the General Medical Council. He is a member of the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons UK, an Associate Member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons USA (ISHRS), and an Associate Member of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine UK (BCAM).
Dr Khan is a specialist in the FUE hair transplant.
The Follicular Unit Extraction hair transplant harvests your own hair follicles from areas of healthy hair growth on your scalp and transplants them to areas affected by hair loss.
Unlike more traditional hair transplant procedures, the FUE is a minimally invasive process which is performed under a local anaesthetic.
FUE hair transplants use your own hair follicles and the hair regrowth looks extremely natural and is permanent.
The nature of the procedure means that there is little if any, visible scarring even with cropped hairstyles.
After a follicular unit extraction procedure, you will be able to style your hair however you wish without adapting your style to hide scarring.
The success rate of the FUE hair transplant in the hands of a surgeon as experienced as Dr Kahn is extremely high.
The new hair growth will grow in the same direction as the rest of your hair.
You will be asked to shave the donor area so that the surgeon can have clear access to the individual follicles.
Once the local anesthetic has taken effect, your surgeon will begin to remove individual hair follicles, or units.
The follicles are preserved in a petri dish at a perfect temperature of minus 8 to 10 degrees centigrade until enough have been gathered for the hair transplantation to begin.
Turning to the area requiring hair loss treatment, your surgeon will implant the follicles into tiny incisions in your scalp.
Hair transplant surgery can take between eight and twelve hours, depending on how many hair follicles are needed to achieve the desired effect.
This hair transplant technique will leave tiny circular incisions on your scalp. You can expect these to have healed after about 10 days.
The FUE transplant is a surgical procedure and your surgeon will advise you to rest afterward to promote healing.
It is important that you treat your scalp gently for a while to ensure optimum results. Don’t worry: you will be given detailed instructions on caring for your scalp when you leave the clinic.
Many patients feel confident enough to return to their normal routines after relaxing for a few days.
The new hair growth on the transplanted area will become visible after between 6 and 9 months.
The surgeon’s skill will ensure that the new hairs blend seamlessly into existing hair growth.
The results are permanent. Your own hair follicles are used and reimplanted into your scalp.
Scarring is minimal after a FUE transplant.
As your hair grows, the tiny scars, which will already have faded considerably, will become impossible to find with all but the most cropped hairstyles.
All our patients have a hair loss consultation with their surgeon.
Your surgeon will assess your hair loss and decide if you are a good candidate for a hair transplant.
If the procedure is appropriate for you, your surgeon will decide how many follicles should be transplanted during the hair transplant to achieve the effect you want.
Your consultation will be with the surgeon who performs your hair transplant.
You will have plenty of time to ask questions and to find out all the details of the hair transplant surgery.
Your hair loss consultation will cost between £150 and £200.
The cost of the hair transplant itself will be affected by the number of grafts required and will be confirmed at your consultation.
The total hair transplant price will include the work of our skilled surgeon, the anaesthetic, and follow-up appointments after one month, three months, six months, and a year.

Normally, after a one-night stay, you would go home once the drains are removed. You may feel tightness of your breasts after this surgery. This is normal and it will improve gradually. You should avoid all sport activities, housework such as hovering, driving, dog walking for at least 4-6 weeks following surgery and any weight lifting or strenuous activities for up to 8-12 months following the surgery. The visibility of your scars will depend on the technique used and on the biological response of your body to surgery and healing. Generally the scars after this type of surgery are almost invisible by the end of the year. Patients can benefit from taking four weeks off work, and after you have seen Ms Prousskaia for your four weeks follow up you can discuss beginning a gym routine focused on lower body strength.
The Elena Prousskaia Clinic prides itself on the quality of its aftercare so we’ll make absolutely sure you know what to expect, and how much rest is needed. We’ll give you specific instructions that may include how to care for your breasts following surgery, medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the risk of infection, and when to follow-up with Elena.

While complications with surgery are infrequent, no surgical procedure is without risks. Among the possible complications are scars, infection, haematoma, implant displacement, breast asymmetry and implant rupture. Elena will provide you with further information with the risks and provide you with a detailed consent form during your consultations. This will help you to minimise the risks.
Generally speaking this surgery takes around 60-90 minutes, although this varies depending on the nature of the procedure.
After surgery it is normal to experience some discomfort, the level of which varies widely amongst patients. There is rarely prolonged pain unless there is a complication and in all cases you will be prescribed pain medication.
The shape of implants can be round or anatomical (teardrop). Both can provide an excellent result. The outer shell and the filling may vary depending on the manufacturer. Miss Prousskaia has never used PIP implants in her practice and she will offer you high quality implants from the best manufacturers. You will discuss with Miss Prousskaia which specific shape and size of implant would give you the optimal result. You should know that in the European Union (EU) 95% of implants used for breast augmentation are made of silicone gel and only 5% contains other type of fillings such as saline. Mentor Silicone Gel-Filled Breast Implants are devices with shells constructed from silicone elastomer. The shell is filled with MemoryGel®, Mentor’s proprietary formulation of silicone gel.
Ms Elena Prousskaia has been carrying out aesthetic and plastic surgery procedures for more than 20 years. Elena trained for eight years in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and since then has held leading Fellowships around the world and specialised in breast surgery procedures, whether a patient is having the procedure for purely aesthetic reasons or as part of breast reconstruction. As an NHS Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Southmead Hospital, she dedicated several years to complex microsurgical reconstruction and general plastic surgery. During this time at North Bristol Trust, she particularly enjoyed rebuilding patients who suffered from breast cancer giving them their body and confidence back. At present, Ms Prousskaia runs her own successful private practice performing full range of plastic and aesthetic surgery for face, body and breast. Elena Prousskaia consults in several clinics around the South West. Please see the ‘Our Locations’ tab in the menu for exact addresses or call us to discuss your closest location.
Elena prides herself on taking the time to truly understand a patient’s aims and discussing what result will work best given the patient’s body shape and size. Although good results are expected, the body is not symmetric and almost everyone has some degree of unevenness, which may not be recognized in advance. The more realistic your expectations as to results, the better your results will be in your eye. You will have at least two consultations with Elena where she ensures that she meets your expectations and she will always try to achieve your desired results.
The total cost of the surgery will be confirmed after the first consultation.
The cost includes the hospital, surgeon and anaesthetic fees. It also covers all post-operative visits. The initial consultation fee will be invoiced separately. The prices apply only at the time of publication and are subject to changes without notification.
