About This Treatment

There is no better place to come for your mole removal in Bristol than the Elena Prousskaia clinic.

A mole is a small collection of skin cells or melanocytes on the surface of the skin. They usually appear during childhood, and you may have as many as 50 on your body. Most moles are harmless or benign, but it is a good idea to be aware of your moles’ size and general appearance so that you can show any changes to your doctor.

Removing a mole or any benign skin lesion is a relatively simple procedure in the hands of a skilled surgeon. Elena and her team offer first-class mole removal in Bristol to all their clients from their clinic at the super-modern Spire Hospital.

Mole removal at Elena Prousskaia Bristol

Suspicious moles need to be removed and this can normally be done via the NHS. But some people also choose to remove moles that are benign because they find them unattractive, or they worry that the mole may change in future.

Award-winning plastic surgeon Elena Prousskaia established her Bristol practice after working for several years as an NHS Consultant in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery.  As well as her Bristol clinic, Elena has several successful clinics across the country, including London, offering a range of aesthetic surgeries.

Elena and her skilled surgical team have a great deal of experience in all types of surgery, including removing moles and other types of benign skin lesions. Even though removing a mole is a relatively simple procedure, it should be done by a skilled surgeon under sterile conditions

What does the removal of a mole involve?

Firstly, the area around the mole will be numbed with a local anaesthetic and sterilised with swabs. The surgeon will make an incision and be very careful to ensure that the entire mole is removed without damaging any surrounding structures, for example, nerves. After removal, the mole will be placed in a sterile jar and sent for analysis.

Mole removal should not be painful, and any post-operative pain can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication. Your wound will require stitches, but you should be able to resume your normal activities the day after surgery. However, if your mole was on a part of the body where the skin is required to be stretched, then your surgeon may advise you to take it easy for a few days to avoid strain on the stitches. Dissolvable stitches will usually disappear after a couple of weeks.

How much does mole removal in Bristol cost?

The cost of an initial consultation for a professional surgical opinion starts at £200 and the removal surgery itself at £500.  The final price will vary according to the size and location of the mole and can only be confirmed at your initial consultation. The total price will include the surgeon’s time, the anaesthetic, and the follow-up reviews, of which there will be four in the three months after your surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Are The Likely Complications?

Scarring should be minimal and should fade significantly after three months. Temporary side effects may include swelling, bruising and some pain.

Complications are rare but may include:
• Bleeding
• Pain
• Unsightly scarring
• Infection at the site of surgery (wound)
• Nerve damage
• An epidermoid cyst or a lipoma can return
• A larger operation may be required
• Wound breakdown (skin fails to heal)

What Is The Recovery Period?

Shortly after the operation, you should be able to return home, and you should be able to go back to work the very next day, as long as your work does not put a strain on your stitches. However, it is unlikely that these procedures will stop you from carrying out your daily activities. The area treated may be red and raised for a while. If you have had stitches we will advise you when to come back in to have them removed. Dissolvable stitches will usually disappear between 10 to 14 days after surgery. Pain is usually minimal and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

Can This Be Carried Out Under Local Anaesthetic?

Yes normally this procedure is carried out in an outpatient clinic under a local anaesthetic.

Is Removal Of Benign Skin Lesions Painful?

Pain is usually minimal and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Depending on the sort of lesion you have had removed and where it is on your body, you will be advised to avoid stretching the skin in the area where surgery has taken place while you still have stitches.
